Our Principles

Reforming Hemp Laws

Safety, quality, and value are the key priorities for the communities we serve. These established principles guide HEAR business operations and inform policymakers of our work.

As members of the HEAR Coalition, we are entrepreneurs, cultivators, extractors, processors, manufacturers, wholesalers, bricks-and-mortar retailers, and online retailers who support the following federal-level reforms focused on the entire supply chain for hemp-derived cannabinoid (HDC) products. We are eager to work with policymakers on both sides of the aisle to advance as quickly as possible:

SAFETY – HDC products are meant only for responsible use by adults. The HEAR Coalition’s primary policy objective is to advance reliable and rigorous regulations that guarantee safe production, marketing, sales, and use of our products, with no exceptions. We support:

  • A minimum purchase age of 21 to purchase HDC products.
  • Child-resistant packaging on all of our products.
  • A ban on marketing HDC products to underage children.
  • Packaging standards to prevent the sale of ‘look-alike’ products.
  • Standardized, nationwide labeling to inform adult consumers.
  • The inclusion of warning emblems and/or panels on our products.
  • A prohibition on use of unhealthy substances in the production processes.
  • Sensible, milligram-based limits on HDC products.

QUALITY – Any consumable HDC product must meet the highest standards. HEAR Coalition members are confident in making and selling the best available HDC products. The HEAR Coalition welcomes a federal program to validate these claims via inspection, sampling, and other means. We support:

  • Third-party inspection and testing programs to ensure compliance with health and safety standards while providing accurate identification of product contents.
  • Third-party testing to ensure accurate potency representation percentages and promote informed consumer decisions on efficacy of HDC products.

VALUE – A deep commitment to value through sustainability. Beyond the affordable, safe, and quality products the HEAR Coalition is committed to sustained growth that creates jobs, spurs investment, and ensures robust contributions to local and state economies.

We are:

  • Proud of our overall economic impact of $79.6 billion in the United States.
  • Eager to create even more jobs than the 328,000 people already employed.
  • Prepared to grow the $13.2 billion in wages paid to those working in the industry.
  • Honored to contribute $1.5 billion in sales taxes to the states where we operate.
  • Confident in the benefits we provide to customers, patients, and communities.
